Edited -- talked to the folks at Virgin Mobile, and they say that it should DEFINITELY be picking up a signal where I work, so it may be a defective phone. They suggest going back to the Best Buy and replacing it, and activating the replacement there. If that still doesn't work, then I'll just give up.
